The “100 New Textbooks” project was another significant milestone for Bilim Group. Between 2017 and 2021, 100 textbooks across 20 subjects were translated into Kazakh, and over one million copies were distributed for free to school and university libraries across Kazakhstan. Electronic versions of the textbooks, video lectures, and online courses from the project were uploaded to the Open University of Kazakhstan portal — OpenU.kz.
In 2019, Bilim Group published an anthology of contemporary Kazakh literature in six UN languages, with a print run of 120,000 copies distributed across 93 countries. The company’s work was recognized by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, who sent a letter of appreciation.
The SmartNation ecosystem was launched in 2018, it was made for the government services and administrative processes automation, covering kindergartens, schools, colleges, and supplementary education organizations. In the meantime, the Mektep SmartNation and Jumys SmartNation projects were recognized among the 32 best practices for regional automation implementation, according to an assessment by the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Shortly thereafter, two more innovative resources were launched: BilimKids, a digital methodological platform for preschool education, and Qlang, an online service for learning Kazakh and English.
The year 2020 was equally productive: the company launched the OnlineMektep platform for distance learning, covering the entire school curriculum from grades 1 to 11. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this product became a crucial tool for organizing online lessons in schools across Kazakhstan.
The BilimCenter project was also created during this time — serving as a platform for developing and assessing functional literacy, it prepares students for national and international exams and research. Additionally, the translation of works by Abai Kunanbayev into 10 world languages was completed to mark the 175th anniversary of the great poet and thinker.
In the following years, Bilim Group continued developing its ecosystem by integrating new products and projects. In 2021, this included the launch of BilimUstaz, a professional development service for educators offering more than 95 online courses.
That same year, the “Abai Schools” foundation was established to modernize rural schools. Notably, the fully renovated “Kyzylzhar Abai Secondary School” is already fully operational in the village of Peterfeld (Kyzylzhar District, North Kazakhstan Region).
Another significant milestone in the company’s history was the launch of BilimClass in 2022. BilimClass is an online diary and gradebook integrated with the school administration system, educational content, methodological analysis, and analytics. Today, the BilimClass is used by 2.5 million students and 350,000 teachers across 12 regions of Kazakhstan.
At the same time, Bilim Group completed work on the first Kazakh–English dictionary, the Oxford Qazaq Dictionary, with a print run of 10,000 copies and a content of 60,000 words. As a result, the Kazakh language joined Oxford Global Languages, —the world’s most extensive and authoritative dictionary network.
In 2023, BilimUpSkill was launched — the exclusive partner of the Coursera platform in Kazakhstan, that connects schools, colleges, universities, and companies to global educational programs.
In 2025, the OQU platform was introduced to automate education processes and support voucher-based funding within the framework of the Unified State Order.
In 2015, the national competition “Innovative Teacher” was launched in order to support educators, implementing innovative teaching methods. Bilim Group has also focused on developing offline solutions for schools that do not have stable internet access — the BilimDesk and BilimBook product lines. These portable and stationary products come with pre-installed educational resources and do not require an internet connection.
Alongside the creation of IT products, Bilim Group was engaged in important social initiatives — for instance, in 2014, it completed work regarding the implementation of Kazakh language to Google Translate. Later, it allowed to implement more than 15 additional languages to the translator using the specially created Google Translate Toolkit.
A natural continuation of previous initiatives was the establishment of the Bilim Foundation in 2016, which focuses on developing educational and social programs. One of the foundation’s most significant achievements is a 50% reduction in adolescent suicide rates in the Kyzylorda, Akmola, Aktobe, and Atyrau regions. It is important to note that this project was implemented by Bilim Foundation in collaboration with UNICEF Kazakhstan and the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Mental Health of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2013, the company began building the large educational ecosystem of BilimLand. The first versions of several products were created, including iTest — an online trainer for the UNT (ЕНТ) preparation; iMektep — a platform for primary school education, in the Kazakh language; BilimLand — the largest digital educational content repository in the CIS; and Twig-Bilim, a multimedia educational portal, developed in collaboration with the UK-based Twig Education resource.
At the same time, Kitap.kz — the country’s first digital library with no equivalents in Kazakhstan — was launched, featuring the best works of Kazakh and world literature. Apart from books that can be read or listened to via both the app or website, the service includes educational functionality. It helps teachers develop students’ reading literacy, with the library being suitable not only for schools and libraries, but also for businesses and anyone who wants to read more.
Bilim Group was founded in 2011 as an educational startup. That same year, the company implemented the “Qazaqsha Wikipedia” project, for which its founder, Rauan Kenzhekhanuly, received the prestigious Wikimedian of the Year award from Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia. This project became Bilim Group’s first major contribution to the digital content development in the Kazakh language.
